Affordable Cosmetic Dentistry Abroad - A Dental Holiday
The cosmetic dental industry has been growing rapidly for a number of years and is now widely available; however, for many, the cost of cosmetic dentistry is still prohibitive. A trend is emerging though for dental tourism; that is visiting dentists abroad for cosmetic dental treatments.
By visiting dental clinics abroad, often in mainland Europe or Eastern Europe. it is possible to find good quality, but cheaper, cosmetic dentistry, sometimes saving the patient up to 70% on what they would pay in the UK!
Dental Tourism
Although it is possible to find cosmetic dentists in most countries, some of the top countries visited for cosmetic dental treatment are Hungary (and Budapest in particular), Poland, Spain (including Tenerife) and Turkey. Other worldwide destinations for cosmetic dentistry that are becoming popular are China and Thailand, however, there is perhaps less regulation in these countries so it would be advisable to do some thorough research before going ahead with any dental procedure.
Of course, it is natural that there may be some concern about the quality of cosmetic dentistry abroad and it is obviously advisable to look around and if possible, take professional advice. That said, many are of an equal or superior quality to those in the UK. In fact, as competition has increased, the dental industry abroad has become more thoroughly monitored and a guide is available as as pdf from the General Dental Council.
Although it is cheaper to have cosmetic dentistry done abroad, there are extra costs to be considered such as travel and accommodation.
To negate this somewhat, many are turning to a form of 'dental tourism'. By turning the visit into a holiday, many find this a more economical way of receiving their dental treatment abroad. There are now several companies who specialise in dental tourism, arranging not only the dental treatment that will be received, but also hotel accommodation and other activities, perhaps a spa treatment to help the patient relax and recover after a particularly invasive treatment.
Increasingly too, alongside cosmetic dental procedures, many European dental practices are teaming up with other specialists to provide other forms of cosmetic surgery such as laser eye treatment or plastic surgery.
So, if you feel that cosmetic dentistry in your own country may be out of your financial reach, it is worth looking to dentists abroad for good quality and affordable dental treatment.
